Greek mythology contains three distinct types of cyclopes, but the most well-known are the ones that Homer describes: ferocious giants with one eye that attempted to devour Odysseus upon landing on their isolated island. Polyphemus, their commander, was duped and rendered blind by Odysseus. The sea god Poseidon was the father of these cyclopes.
