Not all Christmas songs were written for Christmas. For example, ‘Jingle Bells’ was written in honor of the Medford sleigh races which took place around Thanksgiving. Written in 1857 by James Lord Pierpont, the jingle was originally titled ‘One Horse Open Sleigh’. Another fun fact is that ‘Jingle Bells’ was the first song broadcast from space.
